Common use
Accupril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor prescribed to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), congestive heart failure, and other cardiovascular problems. Accupril can be combined with other medications such as digitalis and thiazide diuretics as part of a full treatment plan for people with congestive heart failure
Doses direction
For the treatment of hypertension, Accupril is generally taken as 10-20 mg once daily. The dosage can gradually be increased over time if needed to manage high blood pressure, up to a maximum of 80 mg per day.
For the treatment of heart failure, 5 mg is taken twice daily as a starting dose. Dosage can be gradually increased to 20-40 mg daily if needed.
Precautions
Avoid drinking alcohol. It can further lower your blood pressure and may increase some of the side effects of quinapril.
Do not use salt substitutes or potassium supplements while taking quinapril, unless your doctor has told you to

Common side effects of Accupril include:abdominal pain, back pain,chest pain,cough,diarrhea,dizziness,fatigue,headache,lightheadedness,low blood pressure,nausea,rash,vomiting
Drug interaction
Tell your doctor about all prescription and non-prescription medications you may be taking along with Accupril, including vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products. The following drugs should not be taken in combination with Accupril, as interactions may occur:Aspirin,Injectable gold (sodium aurothiomalate),Diclofenac ,Gold injections ,Immune-suppressant drugs ,Lithium ,Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as celecoxib, ibuprofen, and indomethacin,Potassium supplements ,Potassium-sparing diuretics (amiloride, spironolactone, triamterene),Tetracycline and other drugs that interact with magnesium,Trimethoprim (sulfamethoxazole, trimethoprim)Verapamil
Missed dose
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the medicine at the next regularly scheduled time. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
Overdose
Seek emergency medical attention if you think you have used too much of this medicine.
Storage
Store at room temperature between 59-86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep all medicines away from children and pets.
